This charming 19th century Burmese artifact is known in Burma as a kalat (pedestal stand) and was used for presenting attractively arranged votive gifts to the Buddhist monastery.Made of wood, it comprises a shallow circular tray or bowl, set on a flaring pedestal with intricately carved wooden pins. The object has then been lacquered in a base of black lacquer followed by several layers of red lacquer, created by mixing cinnabar with natural black lacquer sap. The center of the tray is decorated with a simple botanical motif. Condition is excellent. Shipping by registered airmail with online tracking is included.
